汉字: 萬歲 , Galleta.

petsohpExactly two weeks ago, my kitten died. Her name was 'Galleta', cookie in spanish. The first week was horrendous, I would disillusion myself that she was there in the house, hanging out in the spots where she liked to sway away. She was the most docile kitten in the street, and even randos would comment that she was such a pretty cat. Just the mackerel tabby that stole everyone's heart; what pains me the most about her passing is that she still had a long natural life to live. She was on track on 7 years, she at minimum still had 5 more healthy active years. Speculation in the house as to how she got her ribs broken, lungs pierced, but alas, we would never truly know; as much as we can say it was probably a motorbike/car, it's just...who in god's name is driving that fast at 5:30 in the morning.
As such, I wanted to make this 汉字 edition in her honor, only to uh...find myself that chinese is chinese, and while I might feel my world is post Galleta right now, I am still living in the world I first knew her.
There are officially 2 different words to say 'Cookie' in chinese,
餅乾 (chinese style cookies) vs 曲奇 (western style cookies).
餅 on its own refers to any flat wheaten food, or flatbread objects. 乾 means 'dry'. This is in contrast to 'twisted, bent' meaning of '曲' and 奇, meaning 'strange/odd' or 'wonderful/fantastic'. You know, when I entered the different terms, google does actually gives different style cookies, I can only imagine they added on '奇, wonderful/fantastic' because the sweetness of our cookies is....fantastic. Heh.
'餅乾' is the generic term for chinese style cookies- you can be more specific with 老婆饼, aka 'sweetheart cookies'; in western languages we do this by sorta of just taking in more descriptions: we say 'chocolate chip cookie'.
By the way, it is sorta funny to me the words for 'old', aka 老 and '婆' old women/grandmother were compounded to mean something like 'oh sweetie' so to speak. If anyone can figure out the logic to that, I'll deeply appreciate it, lol.
