hey.

 so. this morning, the Atlantic published an exposé about Bryan Singer.  

quick summary: hes a predator. has been since he was in his late 20's, early 30 when he entered his first power position over minors in the 90's. 

and the thing is- as I've read the article and took in the details- the worst part of it was that I knew he was like this for years. Like, obviously not the full details and power trips he dealt with that had been described in the article, but I knew about his abuse patterns and certain other allegations.

I don't have any connections to the entertainment industry- I just read the articles in sites that are not as in the pockets of major entertainment companies like the other mainstream sites. and you should know- these sities for years havent hold as many barriers certain other sites have had in keeping the allegations in the DL.

as the new wave of major celebrities that have been in the industry for years deny that they didn't know about Singer just like they did with r.kelly, kevin spacey, and Harvey weinsten- I truly just can't help but to just roll my eyes. random folks from LA have known about spacey and weinsten for decades, and r.kelly? the public have known for ages. 

I know that the artists/celebrities can't come out to say 'yeah I just wanted a career' because that will kill them to their fanbases who idolize them, but whenever I see a celebrity thats in the industry deny they didn't know....I do wish they would just keep their pretty faces and acting chops away from the subject. or maybe just have a serious talk with their PR.  

At this point, we can all agree Justin Bieber as a person is a hot mess- but that's not what matters the most- at least to me. As a person really into pop music and culture, I see it fit that celebrating 10 years of biebism is a milestone I should celebrate. And for that, I'm re-visiting all of Bieber's main singles from this past decade and ranking them... by my whole subjective and personal taste, of course.

Now, wikipedia states that Justin officially has more than 50 singles- but for the purposes of today the only singles I'm counting are the one where hes the main artists, and that are from either of the 3 studio albums hes released- My World 2.0 (2010), which includes the singles for the My World (2009) extended play, Believe (2012) and Purpose (2015).  And to make things a bit easier for me, the ranking will be divided in two rounds: round one is the ranking of each album singles and round two is the official top 3 Justin Bieber singles.

Round One

2010 - My World 2.0 

6) U Smile
'U Smile' is a ballad. I have a severe balladphobia, as In, I usually can't stand a good 35% percent of the ballads I hear, and a good 25% is ballads that I can stand, but it doesn't necessarily means I like it, its just that I dont feel compelled to turn it off in the instant. So with the number rounding up into a 40% chance of me liking a ballad song, well. you can see my problem. Is theres anything positive I can say about "U Smile', is that the song falls into the 15% percent category.

5) One Less Lonely Girl
My overall feelings of 'One Less Lonely Girl' are pretty much the same as with 'U Smile', with 'One Less Lonely Girl' coming on top on the basis that it has a slightly faster pace. 

4) Baby ft Ludacris
The Legend itself- 10 years down the road and in many spaces the first thing remembered about justin bieber is 'Baby.' Bit controversial at the time, but the song ain't that bad. 

3) Somebody to Love
With a rather upbeat sound, it seem fitting that the music video to this song is the when that has a visible choreography.

2) One Time
An absolute killer song. I hadn't heard it since the last time in mid 2010, until a few months ago I went back and listened to it and realized that the beat to 'One Time' is genuinely something good. 

1) Eenie Meenie, ft Sean Kingston
 Look, I have a bit of a soft spot for Sean Kingston, and I'm always wondering if the ditch hes disappeared to is treating him well. I also see it as one of the best representation of a song being a product of its time.

2012 - Believe

5) As Long As You Love Me ft Big Sean
Remember how LMFAO made it big the year before and kickstarted the EDM scene + influence in pop music for the next two? Because oh my god, does this song made me remember that completely. 

4) Beauty and A Beat.
Originally was going for a higher spot, because I truly love the build-up and overall feel of the song, plus, Nicki's verse isn't that bad. The thing is- the build up to the first 'breakdown' is so good, that I'm absolutely devastated that the 'breakdown' is just that..charring. 

3) Boyfriend
Many were caught off guard by how decent 'Boyfriend'- or maybe that was just me. Neverless, when I think of 'good' Justin Bieber music, this song in particular stands up to me. 

2) Right Here ft Drake
Song flow ruined by Drake. There- I said it. 

1) All Around the World ft Ludacris
Theres nothing in specific that stands up to me in this song, other than the fact that I genuinely like listening to it. 

2015 - Purpose 

6) Home to Mama ft Cody Simpson
This was probably the last time I heard Cody Simpson in my radio, and if this song says anything, is that that is a very good thing for me. 

5) Where are Ü Now with Jack Ü
I remember when I first heard this song in the radio- I thought it had potential. Damn that awful drop.

4) Sorry
I'm going to be honest, the last four spot for this album cycle were hard for me to decide. Ultimately, the reason 'Sorry' gets bumped down to #4 is because I heard this song all the way until the end of 2017, and that sort of overexposure makes me less generous with the song.

3) Love Yourself
A gentle, sweet song with interesting production choices, but as I've stated before, slow-ish songs need to wow me completely for me to talk more than one sentence in its favor. 

2) Company
With better lyrics than 'Love Yourself' and a consistent good vibe quality than it, well. 

1) What Do You Mean?
This song was the shift that kickstarted the public perception of justin bieber outside the numerous...activities he engaged in, and truly, it was a smashing, and well deserved hit for him.

Final Thoughts
Theres a lot I missed- 'Love Me' for example, is in the same good vain as 'One Time', but it sadly was only a promotional single Overall, I can say that Bieber's track record has gotten better over the years, which I can't say the same for his public image.
