overanalyzing stuff no one cares about #1
Jul. 4th, 2025 10:18 pm#1 Enrique Iglesias - I Like it (Jersey Shore Version) ft. Pitbull
The truth is that the culture loves reality tv, especially 'trashy' ones. Every generation theres a cycle of people that pretends that the currently popular 'trash' tv is the downfall of the culture, of the nation, and then said non believers accept they were wrong, and go back to the trash tv they made fun of with with the rose tinted eyes of the era, basking in the fun anticks of a simpler time (why, yes, I am one of those).
As it is, I've come to accept reality tv as a natural part of the media ecosystem. If I'm being honest, I unironically think 'trash' reality tv like Love Island or Big Brother is more ethical than your average true crime podcast/video; everyone that goes on to be the main star of those shows are well, alive.
Neverless, the concept of a music video of Enrique Inglesias filiming a version of one of his crossover hits with the Jersey Shore cast on paper even back then was ridiculous, but alas, less ridiculous than it sounds right now. If you really wanted to push an overseas artist to mainstream American audiences, why the hell not feature a cast of the most watched show of the country?
Sidenote: Another part that is funny to me in watching this video is that I'm pretty sure Pitbull was not in the location at the same time as Enrique and the Jersey Shore cast; like yeah the place looks similar but thats about the backstage of every club if we're being honest; alongside the standard lighthing effects. When you realize that all of Pitbulll's shots are solo, you simply can't help but analyze the details.
