I know that its only the beginning of 2019, but in between typing out the 10 years of biebism, remembering the vmas via my 'sing taylor swift @ drunk in a bar' playlist, shakira's biggest international hit since 'hips dont lie' with "she wolf", I realized that 2009 was not only good for western artists, 2009 was also prime year for kpop activity.
girls' generation 'gee'? 'genie'? the wonder girls attempting their american advancement that gives jyp war flashes nowadays? the debut of 2ne1? 4minute? after school? t-ara? f(x)?
smh. nowdays both- western and kpop music is just too overall bleak compared from the stuff that got me invested back in the days. maybe its because I dont have the nostalgia googles on, but damn I miss the days when most of the stuff that got popular was fun and wasn't trying to be anything deep. this is probably why I still hunt the new kpop releases- while western music seems to flat out forget the days when it wasnt filled with songs that feel as if a dark cloud is following us around, kpop, especially the girlgroups, still seem to churn out the poppy, bright sounds that pop music meant to me. (its why I took a liking to twice ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
